Max. size:  30 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: southern Australia, from southern Western Australia to New South Wales and Tasmania.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in seagrass beds and on rocky reefs. Females of this species may be confused with female Penicipelta vittiger [= Acanthaluteres vittiger] (Ref. 9563).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 July 2017 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known to be rare from Houtman Abrolhos Is., WA (Ref. 31792). Recorded from Shark Bay (Ref. 115274, 115321).
