Family:  Centrolophidae (Medusafishes)
Max. size:  90 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 10 kg
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 150 - 1537 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: central and southern Japan. Larvae found in Taiwan Strait (Ref. 43570).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed (Ref. 12114, 12115). Adults found in deeper water, at depths greater than 100 m (Ref. 559). Plankton feeder (Ref. 12115).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Ranges from Hokkaido southward. Not found in Hokkaido (Ref. 11230). Eaten during the winter season. Also Ref. 9137, 45956.
