Family:  Anthiadidae (Fairy basslets or Streamer basses)
Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 30 m
Distribution:  Southeast Atlantic: Namibia to East London, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-8. Head and body with small orange spots and few scattered dark brown blotches; caudal and anal fins dark grey, pelvic fins dusky yellow (Ref. 4319). Lower GR with 4-6 rudiments.
Biology:  Occurs frequently among rocks in depths of 1 to at least 20 m (Ref. 4319). Commonly caught by anglers (Ref. 4319). Flesh excellent (Ref. 4319).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Syntypes were lost and a neotype from Algoa Bay was established, SAIAB 85233 (17.5 cm Sl, female). Endemic to southern Africa from False Bay, Western Cape Province to Durban (Ref. 83528). Flesh excellent (Ref. 4319).
