Family:  Danionidae (Danios), subfamily: Rasborinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  Asia: India and Sri Lanka.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal soft rays: 6-6. Dorsal-hypural distance, when carried forward, falls behind posterior border of eye (Ref. 41236).
Biology:  Found in small lowland forest streams and pools, large rivers and some estuarine waters. (Ref. 6028). Also found in mountain streams (Ref. 41236). Occurs sympatrically with R. daniconius (Ref. 6028).

Country info:  Known from peninsular India in Karnataka and Tami Nadu (Cauvery drainage) and Tambraparni (Ref. 41236). Also Ref. 4832, 43640, 43641, 45255. Status of threat: Data deficient in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
