Comments: | Year introduced (Ref. 12062). Had been stocked intensively into Sri Lankan freshwaters after its introduction (Ref. 12765). Established in certain reservoirs (Ref. 1739). Recorded from the Victoria reservoir (Ref. 27518). Has hybridized with the introduced O. mossambicus which initially led to an increase in production but later on resulted to an imbalance in sex ratio with male dominance and a decline in fecundity. This might lead to a decline of fish yields in perennial reservoirs (Ref. 12765). Also Ref. 74657. Ref: Amarasinghe, U.S. and S.S. de Silva, 1996 |
