Comments: | Introduced to Lake Victoria to supplement stocks of the native Oreochromis species which had declined considerably due to overfishing. Competed with the native species due to their similarity in ecological requirements which led to the native species declining population. Forms a basis of the fisheries of Lake Victoria. Was also introduced to Lake Naivasha in 1967 but did not establish (Ref. 13053). Also Ref. 7270 and 13046. Ref: |
