The same case with Oreochromis mossambicus after introduction. Three Nile tilapia strains: GIFT strain, EGYPT strain. THAI strain have been reintroduced in Vietnam since May, 1994. The research program on comparison and evaluation of these strains is being carried out at Research Institute for Aquaculture No1. (RIA No.1). Oreochromis niloticus (Nile tilapia) has rapidly become an important cultured fish species in Vietnam, it caused significant changes in stock, size and fish community structure. However, due to improper management, this strain also lost its purity, leading to slow growth and small marketable size. Therefore, at present this Nile tilapia strain is not cultured popularly as before.
