Comments: Introduced in 1956 by the Forestry Service for pisciculture (Ref. 39866). Introduced to Lake Alaotra in 1960 (Ref. 13364) or 1961 (Ref. 27445), and Lake Itasy in 1961-1962 (Ref. 13364, 27445), but seems to have disappeared in the latter (Ref. 27445). Present in rice fish culture and in the wild but its importance in fisheries is declining. Recorded from the lower Mangoro river and Nosivolo tributary, Marolambo region (Ref. 26236), and the Manantenina River (Ref. 39866). Widespread throughout the island (Ref. 39866).
