Comments: Reintroduced in 1955. Oreochromis mossambicus has been used widely in practical culture, Presence of stocks in Viet Nam was assumed as China received its stocks from there. As in most tropical and subtropical region of the world, during 1970-1980, O. mossambicus was cultured popularly. However, for the last about 10 years, this tilapia strain lost its purity showing slow growth, high frequency of breeding, earlier maturity, small marketable size and thus lost popularity (Ref. 13364).     Ref:  FAO, 1997
