Vertebral column strongly arched; dorsal and anal fin rays 4; caudal fin rays 8; pelvic fins absent; branchiostegal rays 6; ring of melanophores around "neck"; 3 caruncles visible on females by 3.3 mm. Pigmentation: Flexion-postflexion: narrow band encircling body at level of nape; dorsally and dorsolaterally on body above gut, spreading ventrad and caudad; laterally on caudal peduncle; internally on dorsal and dorsolateral surfaces of gut. Transformation: females completely pigmented except on dorsal, anal, and caudal fin rays; males lightly pigmented, retain larval pattern. Sequence of fin development: illicium and caruncle and caudal, dorsal, anal and pectorals. Transformation length of: males - 6.5-8.5 mm; females - 8-10 mm. |
