Newly hatched young with a prominent yolk sac, an oval eye and a large head with a prominent pointed snoutand a small inferior mouth; unpigmented except for a number of large black stellate pigment cells on the yolk sac. By the time a young fish is 0.7 cm, the yolk sac has been absorbed and only a few large pigment cells are present on the right side of the stomach region (Ref. 27547).
