Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 0; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 10-12; Afterflossenstacheln 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 8. Diagnosis: Mouth subinferior; barbels absent; lateral line complete; 24-28 scales in lateral line; 12 circumpeduncular scales; no spots on sides; tip of dorsal fin black (Ref. 81639).

Occurs over sandy-muddy substrates near aquatic vegetation composed mainly of the water hyacinth Eichornia crassipes and reed; also occurs over rocks without vegetation (Ref. 27625).
