Etymology: Lythrurus: Greek, lythron = blood + Greek, oura = tail; the red breeding colours in most members of this genus (Ref. 45335);  fumeus: Lythrurus (Greek) meaning red tail, and fumeus (Latin), smoky (Ref. 79012).
