Épines dorsales (Total): 6; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 11; Épines anales 1; Rayons mous anaux: 11. Translucent orangish gray dorsally shading to violet gray ventrally; 2 diffuse orange lines running posteriorly from eye; dorsal fin rays red (Ref. 13442).

Occurs in schools near large coral columns and heads. Has been reared in captivity (Ref. 35408). Hovers above bottom in caves and shaded areas in reefs (Ref. 26938).
