背棘 (總數): 0; 背的軟條 (總數): 35; 臀棘 0; 臀鰭軟條: 45. More or less massive body than M. caballus. Narrow head (length/interorbital space ratio 10 to 1), snout similar to M. caballus. Uniformly dark with neck and stomach much clearer. With depression in the middle between gills and eyes. Eyes laterally situated. Anal fin origin before dorsal fin origin.
超過 M. caballus 的較大或較小的身體. 狹窄的頭部 (長度/ 眼間隔比 10 到 1), 吻類似 M. caballus 。 全黑色，頸部與腹部顏色較淡。 在鰓與眼之間的中央中有凹窪。 眼位於側面。 背鰭起點前的臀鰭起源。
