Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 8. Dionda nigrotaenita is similar to its congener D. serena but differs from it by having eye shorter than snout and 8 anal rays (Ref. 86798).

Inhabits rocky pools, sometimes runs, of headwaters, creeks, and small rivers. Usually occurs among filamentous algae (Ref. 86798).
