Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 7; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 8; Afterflossenstacheln 1; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 7; Wirbelzahl: 25. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: cephalic sensory-pore system pattern 2 (lacking only IT pore); dorsal/anal fin-ray formula 8/7; unbranched pectoral-fin rays; fifth pelvic-fin ray 9.7-12.9% of 4th; caudal-fin base with a narrow dark bar; a red line reaching down from under eye to jaws; presence of 5 postanal ventral-midline spots associated with subcutaneous bars; absence of black crescent-shaped marks underneath pectoral fin (Ref. 95167).
