Etymology: Callogobius: Greek, kalos, kallos = beautiful + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335);  albipunctatus: Name from Latin 'albus' for white and 'punctatus' meaning spotted, referring to the many white small spots on the body and fins.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: longitudinal row scales 25-29; transverse row scales 8-10; predorsal scales 7-11; posterior margin of pelvic fins is concave, the fourth ray is the longest, frenum low, connecting membrane 66.2-79.7% of pelvic fin length; cephalic sensory canal pores B’D(s)FH’; Row 16 comprising 10R + 1P; with Row 20; pectoral, pelvic, and caudal fns with white or light spots (Ref. 124175).
