Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 37-41; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 36 - 41; Ryggkotor: 36. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: D 37-41; A 36-41; anterior rays of dorsal and anal fins have distinct falcate lobes, preceded by 5-10 small blade-like spines embedded in skin and not obvious in larger specimens; anterior lobe of anal fin is greatly extended, reaching behind the peduncle; first anal fin ray originate below 5 th-6 th dorsal fin ray; pectoral fins are extremely long (mean 44.8% of SL); caudal fin deeply forked, with the lower lobe usually longer than the upper one; gill rakers vestigial with 7-10 minute tubercular-like spinules; total vertebrae 36, precaudal 15 and caudal vertebrae 21 (Ref. 95516).
