Etymology: Figaro: Presumably named for the eponymous barber in various dramas (e.g., The Marriage of Figaro), allusion not explained nor evident. (See ETYFish); boardmani: In honor of friend and colleague William Boardman (1906-1963), Assistant Ornithologist, Australian Museum (Sydney), who collected holotype from a trawler. (See ETYFish).

Espinas dorsales (total): 0; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 0; Espinas anales 0; Radios blandos anales: 0. Three broad dark saddles in front of first dorsal fin, about as wide as eye diameter or wider (Ref. 11146).
A little-known but common Australian catshark found on the outer continental shelf and upper slope, presumably on or near the bottom (Ref. 11146, 75154). Feeds mainly on fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods (Ref. 6871). Appears to aggregate by sex (Ref. 6871).
