Known from Peninsular India: Krishna and Godavari rivers are its principal river systems (Ref. 4832). Found in Chaliyar (Nilambur, Kerala), Cauvery and Moyar; Meenmutti area, Periyar river and lake (Ref. 43638); Maharashtra (Ref. 43634); Bhavani River, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148). Destruction and changes in the ecological characteristics of the river in Sirur have contributed to the disappearance of the fish from there (Ref. 41236).
