Known from Peninsular India: Krishna and Godavari rivers are its principal river systems (Ref. 4832). Found in Chaliyar (Nilambur, Kerala), Cauvery and Moyar; Meenmutti area, Periyar river and lake (Ref. 43638); Maharashtra (Ref. 43634); Bhavani River, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148). Destruction and changes in the ecological characteristics of the river in Sirur have contributed to the disappearance of the fish from there (Ref. 41236). Endangered or probably extinct (Ref. 41236, 45212). Also Ref. 40976, 43640, 45255.
