Occurs all over France except in the mountainous regions of the Alps and the Pyrénées. Known from Gironde estuary (Ref. 51442). Highly valued by fishermen. Can be fished with various types of bait, both of animal and plant origin. Flesh esteemed in certain regions of France (Ref. 30578). Also Ref. 12228.
