Type locality of some syntypes of Pellonula miodon: 'Mbete, Niamkolo Id., and Kasakalawa, Lake Tanganyika' (Ref. 1872). Known from Lake Tanganyika (Ref. 1872, 1878, 10396). Introduced in Lake Kariba (Ref. 1739, 8600, 36904) and Lake Iteshiteshi (Ref. 8600). Its introduction in Lake Kariba from Lake Tanganyika took place in 1967-1968 (Ref. 36904), where it now constitutes the basis for a successful fishery (Ref. 8600). Its introduction in Lake Iteshiteshi from lake Tanganyika took place in 1992, but its present survival is unknown (Ref. 8600). Also reported as Microthrissa stappersii from Lake Mweru (Ref. 246, 52958), but this is based on an erroneous type locality of the species (Ref. 26733). Also Ref. 94701.
