Presently found only in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Occurs in well shaded forest streams and swamps with acidic waters. Swims almost actively in mid-water at night. Occasionally found in the ornamental fish trade. Threatened mainly due to habitat degradation. Conservation measure includes continued protection of its natural habitat from human impacts (Ref. 85309).

Status of threat: critically endangered (Ref. 85350).
