Ranges from Paraíba south to São Paulo, including Manuel Luiz Reefs, Zumbi Reefs, and Abrolhos Reefs (Ref. 57756). Brazilian record caught by spear-fishing was 328 kg caught in Rio de Janeiro in 06/12/1997 (Ref. 57808). Population status: rare (Ref. 84211). Also Ref. 5217, 5222, 26938, 89707.
