Known from the Amazon River basin (Ref. 36377). Recorded in Piracicaba river (Ref. 50076). Considered economically important by the Brazilians who have acclimated the originally Amazonian stocks to the conditions of the province in the northeast (Ref. 27188). Established populations introduced in the states of Bahia, Ceará, Espirito Santo, Maranhão, and Piauí (Ref. 126783).
