Described for Lake Lugano (Ref. 94493). Known from Lakes Maggiore, Como and Garda (Ref. 13696); also from the Ombrone River (Ref. 40637). Introduced in Lakes Bolsena, Bracciano and Vico (central Italy). (Ref. 59043). Several publications in ASFA use Alosa fallax lacustris as valid name from Lago Maggiore (Harald Rosenthal, pers.comm. 11/09).
