Comments

Has been bred and introduced unsuccessfully into several lakes in Italy. Has been artificially restocked in Lake Garda but at present the species is seldom found in the lake and catches have decreased from about 20 tons a year in 1987 to less than 5 tons between 1985 and 1988. Overfishing, habitat destruction and pollution are responsible for its present decline (Ref. 26100), and possibly due to introduction of exotic Coregonus and Salmonidae (Ref. 59043). Also Ref. 13696, 27118, 94493.

Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 119201).
