Abundant along the coasts of the Baltic, from it enters all the tributaries, penetrating Lakes Onega and Ladoga, Pal'ozero, Lishmozero, theMoscow Volkhov R. through the Neva. May also be found in the lower reaches of the Pechora (Ref. 593). Juveniles were released into Lake Seliger and thereafter individuals were recorded in the Volga basin in the regions of Tver, Rybinsk, Kostroma, the Samara Reservoir and the Moscow River (Ref. 26334). This has been translocated to areas within the country for stocking in open waters and apparently dispersed to other areas as well, however, it failed to establish self-sustaining populations (Ref. 45022).
