Type localites: South Australia, Adelaide, BMNH 1871.9.13.169 (holotype of Gobius mucosus); SW Western Australia, AM I.11480 and I.11235 (syntypes of Mucogobius gobiosoma (Ref. 75154). Widely distributed along the southern coasts, from southern New South Wales to southern Western Australia, including Tasmania (Ref. 9002).
