Known from Sumatra and Lake Tundai, South Borneo (Ref. 42107). Found in the Kapuas Lakes Area in western Borneo. Fishermen reported that this is most common in the Kapuas mainriver and not common in the lakes, but somehow more common in Pulau Majang where it breeds in December (Ref. 56749). Recorded from Danau Sentarum National Park in the Kapuas basin of Borneo, Kalimantan Barat (Ref. 56749). Museum: Kapuas, CAS 49215 (Ref. 2091). Important food fish kept in cages or caught in open waters. Its flesh is expensive (Ref. 7050). Genetic research (documentation of carp genetic resources) for the aquaculture sector is being done in the country (Ref. 55327).
