Known from the European Black Sea watersheds, European Mediterranean Sea watersheds, Aegean Sea watersheds, western, central and eastern Anatolian lake watersheds, Anatolian Black Sea watersheds and Gulf watersheds (Firat Nehri, Dicle Nehri) (Ref. 58342). Found in the upper reaches of Kura and Aras, in Coruh, Kizilirmak and Sakarya. Also reported from the Anatolian Euphrates drainage and from Meles river at Izmir (Ref. 33550). Also Ref. 106151. Considered a keystone species. Threatened due to habitat loss, eutrophication/pollution, construction of weirs/dams in rivers and water abstraction (Ref. 58342). Also Ref. 91784.

Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 58342). "EurTurk."
