Type locality, east of Sydney, New South Wales, CSIRO H 953-07 (holotype of

Apristurus austalis, 61.6 cm TL, male). Currently known only from the coasts off northern Queensland to southern Tasmania and Western Australia at 486-1035 m (Ref. 76943).
