Type locality, Shizuoka Prefecture, middle reaches of Warashima River of the Abe River system, KPM-NI 23668 (holotype of Luciogobius fluvialis, 3.22 cm SL, male). Found only in Warashina River, a tributary of the Abe River System entering Suruga Bay, on the Pacific coast of Shizuoka Prefecture in southern Japan (Ref. 86963).

Status of threat: Near threatened (Ref. 94887).
