B. r. aurantiacus: known from westward and eastward flowing rivers of Angola (Ref. 2801), including the rivers Cuanza and Cunene (Ref. 11970, 27292); also known from the Chiumbe River system (Kasai drainage, middle Congo River basin), upper Cubango (Okavango system) (Ref. 11970) and the upper Zambezi (Ref. 11970, 38676). Reported from the Cadonboque River at Nova Lisboa (=Huambo)(Ref. 11970). Type-locality of the lectotype of Barbus aurantiacus: 'Lucalla River at Lucalla' (Ref. 1869, 2801, 104790). Also Ref. 120641.
