Diagnosis

Description: Characterized by brown color with numerous, variable-sized, irregular, dark-edged white spots and vermiculations, some forming doughnut-shaped rings; all dorsal rays branched except first 19-30 rays; all anal rays branched; caudal rays 18; pectoral fins absent; lateral line of eyed side unbranched with 67-71 scales, including 8-10 anterior to upper end of gill opening; presence of short caudal peduncle; ctenoid scales; tubular anterior nostril just reaching fleshy edge of lower eye when laid back; eye diameter 4.4-5.9 in HL: depth of body 2.4-2.6 in SL (Ref. 90102).
