Remarks Males, compared to females, have higher first dorsal fin, with filaments on the anterior 3 spines (vs. first dorsal fin lower and spines not filamentous); a distally straight second dorsal fin with the last ray longer than in the female; an elongate caudal fin (vs. shorter); and a different colouration of the first and second dorsal fins.

Diagnosis

This species is distinct with the following characters: preopercular spine with 3-7 dorsal points;

anal fin rays 8; 7 relatively long segments in the ventrolateral fold of skin; first dorsal fin in males filamentous 1st to 3rd spines; anal fin with distal black streaks (Ref. 78107).
