Comments: Depending on geographical location, actual spawning period may be as early as November and as late as May, at surface temperatures of 0.6-1.7°C. It occurs in shallow water (0.3 to more than 1.5 m but sometimes 18 to 20 m deep, Ref. 28890), over sand and gravel, usually under the ice. An average female will produce 500,000 to 750,000 eggs (Ref. 28695, 28698, 28699).
