Freshwater; benthopelagic; non-migratory. Temperate; 18°C - 26°C (Ref. 13614); 32°N - 31°N
North America: restricted to Toyah Creek and the effluents (including irrigation canals) of San Solomon, Phantom Cave and Griffin springs in Reeves County in Texas, USA.

Occurs in springs, spring-fed canals and ditches, usually over mud in current (Ref. 5723). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139)
