Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); nigribarbis: From the Latin "niger" = black and "barba" = beard, referring to its dark black chin (Ref. 55898).
