Etymology: Gymnogobius: Greek, gymnos = naked + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Professor Dr Ferdinand Breunig was Professor of Natural History, Imperial Gymnasium at Schotten (Vienna) and Curator of their natural history collection. He was honoured as a token of Steindachner’s ‘special veneration’ (translation) of him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
