This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: a unique triangular tubercle on the male caudal peduncle; absence of scales on head and thorax; eye diameter shorter than interorbital width; absence of outer gill raker; absence of processus dentiformis; six branched pelvic-fin rays; eight branched dorsal-fin rays and specific metric characters (Ref. 133081).
