Etymology: Hypostomus: Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335); caudofasciatus: Name 'caudofasciatus' from the Latin words 'cauda' and 'fasciatus', meaning 'tail' and 'stripes', in reference to the longitudinal dark stripes on its caudal fin.
