Etymology: Paranemachilus: Greek, para = the side of + Greek,nema = filament + Greek, cheilos = lip (Ref. 45335); liui: Name 'liui' in honor of Zongyuan Liu, whose works significantly promoted the economic and cultural landscape of the type locality.

This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: cheeks scaled; branched pectoral fin rays 11-13; preoperculomandibular canal pores 7-9; preanus length 67.4%-74.3% of SL; snout length 21.4%-28.7% of lateral head length; supraorbital canal pores at base of anterior nostrils 11-15 (Ref. 137458).
