This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: wide, dark midlateral stripe from snout tip to caudal peduncle sharply contrasting pale underside and aligned with dark stripe centered on dorsal portion of lower caudal-fin lobe; 11-12 gill rakers on the first ceratobranchial; dark brown W-shaped band at the base of caudal peduncle absent; 39 vertebrae; maxillary barbel surpassing vertical through dorsal-fin origin; short, flexible extension of the pectoral- and dorsal-fin spines, and outermost primary rays of upper caudal-fin lobe absent (Ref. 137469).
