Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays: 8. Differs from all other Japanese striated spined loaches by having the following characters: prepelvic myotome number commonly 13; body color pattern consisting of 5 longitudinal lines of pigmentation (abbreviated as lines L1 to L5) (line L3 formed by sharp longitudinal line, reaching to caudal base; line L4 formed by narrow longitudinal line, reaching beyond dorsal fin, narrower than L3 in male of non-spawning season; line L5 organized in 11-14 roundish, oblong or ovoid blotches in non-spawning season); caudal fin and dorsal fin with 3-4 arcuate bars; upper spot at the caudal base jet-black comparable in size to eye diameter; lower spot at caudal base faint or missing; lamina circularis at the base of the pectoral fin of adult male simple roundish plate, the upper segments of the first branched soft ray narrow and weak; egg yolk diameter approximately 1.0 mm; and karyotype diploid (Ref. 92393).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00562 (0.00254 - 0.01244), b=3.05 (2.87 - 3.23), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Assumed Fec < 10,000).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
