Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 133 - 143; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7-12; Anal soft rays: 109 - 116; Vertebrae: 146 - 156. This species is distinguished from its its two congeners by the following characters: D spines 133-143 dorsal-fin (vs. 124-128 in E. koreanus and 116-125 in E. tanneri); A 109-116 (vs. 102-103 koreanus, 90-100 tanneri); total vertebrae 146-156 (vs. 141-143 koreanus, 132-143 tanneri ); and, pectoral-fin rays 5-6 (vs. 7 both congeners); further, it is unique in lacking prominent dark markings on the sides of the head and body, whereas E. koreanus and E. tanneri have a dark band posterior to the eye and a series of dark blotches midlaterally on the trunk and tail (Ref. 128434).
