Morphology | Morphometrics
Diagnosed from Iberocypris alburnoides and species of Squalius in Iberian Peninsula by having the following characters: body with dark longitudinal stripe; mouth subinferior; and anal fin with concave posterior margin (Ref. 59043).
Inhabits middle reaches of rivers, with abundant aquatic vegetation and moderate to fast current, with rocks or gravel bottom (Ref. 59043). A short-lived species which also occurs in rivers on the low plains, with little current and at high altitudes. Is threatened due to habitat destruction, pollution and the introduction of other species (Ref. 26100). Possibly of hybrid origin (Ref. 59043).
