Etymology: Microphotolepis: Greek, mikros = small + Greek, phos, photos = light + Greek, lepis = scale.
This species is synonym of Microphotolepis schmidti (Angel & Verrier. 1931) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
