Dorsal spines (total): 7. Differs from other Upeneus with 7-spined dorsal fin in generally having13 pectoral fin rays; 7 + 20 gill rakers; 29 + 1-2 lateral line scales; no teeth on ectopterygoid; and, silver-brown peritoneum (Ref. 43139).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
Inhabits sandy or weed covered areas. A good food fish. Depth estimate based on its ecology.
